Don't Forget to Look

There was a streak of vivid orange behind the trees early this morning. What a tremendous contrast to our narrow, dark strip of woodland. I went out to say goodbye to Stephen and our youngest daughter before they motored off to their jobs in the city.
Hadn’t seen much of daughter o’ mine the day before with her tight schedule, and everything, so went over to her window; “Haven’t see much of you lately. “
“No, I’ve been terribly busy: and tired.” She kept fiddling with her cell phone. (Sound familiar?)
“Just look at the gorgeous sky.” Her eyes flickered upwards.
“Yeah, it is pretty.”
Soon they were gone.
I’m at the stage of life when I have plenty of time to enjoy sweet communion with my Best Friend and Guide.  But it’s not quite that easy for everyone. Maybe the baby kept you awake half the night, maybe you had to nose your way through rush hour traffic, or sit elbow to elbow with poker faced strangers on yet another overcrowded subway train. Maybe the school children were uncooperative, and worse yet bickering or sassing when it was desperately important to get everyone shooed out the door. Maybe you spilled coffee on your suit jacket at Tim Hortons on your way to work!  When it's impossible to flee to your room, fall on your knees and cry out to God, retreat to the secret closet of your mind. Take Jesus with you, and hand over those burdens. No, toss those stresses into Jesus’ arms, and BELIEVE He caught them.  Keep on tossing if they want to bounce right back to you, and don't forget to look at the sunrise. It's His signature reminding us that He really cares about what's going on in our lives and wants to help.
