Let's face it, weeds are nasty, annoying and sometimes noxious. I know we have all done it, but do we really want to compare sweet, innocent children with---weeds?
As you may well know, we just came back from a little jaunt over to Saskatchewan. Several days before I left I had propped up a sunflower that was leaning precariously forward. Now, this exact sunflower was not supposed to have gotten so big according to the picture. It was supposed to nestle sweetly just under the eaves of the chicken house, but no, like all of its brothers and sisters, it was towering well above the allotted space. Not that I was going to object. It was a flower after all, so I tried my best to get it to grow uprightly by propping something next to it. But. I was gone for a few days, and the poor thing had landed on its face and was super withered. Well, most normal people would yank it out and be done with it. I guess I am just different. I propped it up once again, watered it, like as in giving it a thorough soaking, and gave it plenty of organic fertilizer. (I am trying to be discrete for the sake of the non-farming readers.) The next day I looked at it and shook my head. This thing will never survive. Why not just yank it out? (And leave a hole.) But the next day and the next I saw that the ungainly giant was actually recovering! On closer inspection, I realized that where leaves had died, new leaves had formed. Hey, it brought a lump to my throat, and my eyes got a little bit moist. How much like children, I thought. Some fall on their faces because of the hard knocks life gives them, but with enough tender loving care, they can bounce back. They are just that resilient. Children are so precious. Let's give 'em all the nurturing they need so they can grow strong and sunny just like the sunflowers.
If you like it, pass it on. If not let me know.

hi,
ReplyDeleteyou gave the plant what it needed to grow. I learned that a plant can sense feelings and to promote healthy growth it needs attention, affection and you can even talk to it. I know this is not new to you, you,ve been doing it all along. you also stated children are not like weeds... in some ways they can be (nasty, annoying and sometimes noxious) but often they grow out of it with the help of loving parents. thanks for sharing.

Yeah, you are so right. I'm such a sentimental person I would so much rather look at the little ones through rosey tinted glasses, but even mine get smudged at times.
