So what’s so special about being a Mennonite? I don’t like that
question!
Mennonite is a catch all phrase, and if it was a prism it would reflect all the colors of the rainbow and then some. Ask me rather what is so special about being part of the family of God. That would be closer to my heart. I picture us living in a Fort, a real lovely Fort with lots of busy workers going in and out and the sound of singing and lilting laughter often heard. Here we are safe, comfortably so, but not hedged in in a harsh manner. Here we mingle with, and help each other on a regular basis and in a variety of ways. Here we have problems like anyone else but we take them to our Heavenly Father, the King, who helps us sort things out. This is a Safe Place that has a welcoming beacon light scanning the surrounding areas searching for those who are seeking a secure haven. Here there is a Great Physician on duty around the clock, with numerous assistants who are ready to help. There are many workers in this Fort, and they have a variety of gifts. I personally want to help others though my writing. Jesus has so much joy to offer and I want others to find it also. Being surrounded by the people of God is a Safe Place.
