When a godly parent dies it is hard for the loved ones to watch them go. Slowly they weaken, their responses lessen but those gathered around know they were loved to the very end. It’s heartbreaking yet sweetly touching. Earlier, perhaps, there had been last words of concern and comfort. How hard it is to say goodbye, but the pain is lessened by the hope of meeting them once again in Heaven.
There was someone else who knew He was going to die but those nearest and dearest to Him didn’t seem to recognize the fact. He knew He was going to suffer in the most horrendous way possible before He could breathe His last but didn’t bog down His loved ones with all the gory details. He put aside thoughts of his own eminent pain and suffering and attended to their needs.
I suppose you know by now who I am referring to. Jesus, our loving Saviour, and Friend. One little phrase impressed me in my devotions this morning from John 13:1: ‘he loved them unto the end.’ Sometimes so little can say so much.
