“A pair? Yer kiddin’ me. They never stroll around in broad day light like that. I wonder what they are after this time. Seems like they are getting meaner all the time.”
“Maybe they are after you,” his buddy teased.
“Ha.” Har crept in closer and a group of smaller boys ran over to see why he was acting so curiously.
“Hey, look at that,” Dod yelled. “They are being followed by a totally handsome buck deer and his harem. Isn't that weird!”
“I’m gonna tell Dad!” one of the younger boys yelled.
“Wait. You’ll miss the excitement. “There’s more animals coming!” But Gef was off like an arrow shouting all the way.
Apparently others had seen the strange phenomenon and were forsaking their houses and businesses to see what was going on. Soon a swelling crowd was gathered on a small hillock outside the city gates.
“WOW! They are coming from all directions! That camel actually looks tired! I wonder if it has traveled a long, long ways?”
“Hey, look at the sky! Even the birds are flying over here.”
“Even though they are coming from all over, they are forming a line,” a little girl observed.
“An orderly line,” her sister added. “They seem to be all heading in the same direction.”
“To Noah’s Ark” someone whispered.
Several small heads nodded. They wished they could go to, but their Mom’s and Dad’s had either forbidden them to, or ridiculed them so badly they didn't dare ask.
They believed Noah. No grownup would spend that many years building a ship that huge, where there was no body of water near large enough to float it, if a Higher Power hadn't told him to.
The children were awestruck until they heard the adults laughing derisively and poking fun of the long procession. Some of the older ones were going to join in on the mockery, but just then several adults hurried in their directions and angrily chased them away.
Mairekah and Rebecca wrapped their arms around each others waists and stood watching from the top of the ramp. They paid as much attention, or more, to the peoples reactions as they did to the animals coming closer.
Their lips moved in barely audible prayers; “Please God; please soften their hearts. May they break away from the mocking, indifferent crowds and come before it’s too late.”
Noah joined them on one side of the yawning door while his son’s guided the animals into their stalls. He lifted his arms up beseechingly towards the ever growing multitudes and pleaded like he never had before.
The girls saw various emotions flicker across some of the faces but no one stepped forward. Keiah was in her mother’s arms.
She reached out so far towards them, calling something intelligible, that Mairekah’s heart broke. Her father turned and swung his hand against her face. She screamed while falling to the ground, then was lost to their sight.
Aquinnah, and her two daughter’s in law’s every heartbeat was like a prayer. Inside, while the boys worked quietly, they were also praying.
There was one other daughter in law but she didn't want to be seen by all those staring eyes. Darka had very mixed feeling about the whole venture. Sometimes she wished she hadn't married Ham, thus ending up the laughingstock of all her peers. She didn't know how good she had it.
We, to, are living in a dark and troubled world. We all know how violence and other sins are increasing daily, but there is hope! The Father has once again provided an ark of safety for His beloved children. He, like Noah, is reaching out to troubled humanity with the loving call: "Come Unto Me!" He offers rest. Rest for our souls; rests from the fears and worries that would otherwise plague us so. Come unto Jesus and be safe.
I don't know who you are, but my heart goes out to you. I am pleading daily that my little messages can bring a ray of hope to your burdened soul. You might be surprized at how many others are also praying.
