I Am So Spoiled

www.marilynshistoricalnovels.com

How can a person get so lucky?  What homemaker doesn't like an excuse to beautify their home and surroundings? Well, I won't go so far as to say I'm getting paid to do just that but it gets pretty close.  Throw in the opportunity to splurge on yummy dishes that aren't generally on the budget and it sounds like the good life, right?

Now some of us like to live on a quiet acreage but how do you earn money sitting at home? The way I do! The fun way! Sure I mentioned the food and the opportunity to pretty up the place but that isn't even the main thing, not nearly.  The best part is getting to know such wonderful, interesting people from all walks of life and far-flung places.
You probably guessed by now I am talking about our bed and breakfast. It's my dream job and I'm looking forward to meeting you next. Maybe you want to share your wonderful story with us.

Everyone welcome!

We're All Teacher's Pets

Can you picture this little guy in a one room school house? He’d be the one who more than likely has a frog in his pocket, a mischievous grin on his face, sparkling eyes, and a cowlick!
He’s the one who can’t quite settle down, causes all kinds of disturbances in class but ---is loved.
That’s how God must sometimes feel. I wiggle and squirm and get easily distracted when He tries to teach me something but He never loses patience with me.
Like last night, for example; I was trying to have my devotions but couldn’t concentrate worth a hill o’ beans. Did He get stern and glower forbiddingly at me? No…Did He—heaven forbid-- look meaningfully towards the thick black strap hanging from a nail on the wall? No, ma’am.
He did say, though, that I needed to learn self-discipline, and I wanted to, oh, my but did I ever! I loved those beautiful lessons He's taught in the past, the sweet communion of His presence, but the little child inside me wanted to jump right out and play.
All was not lost, though. I ‘saw’ the twinkle in His eye, the kindly, if not slightly amused expression on His face, and just wanted to try harder for next time!
Serendipity!

While I'm not writing blog posts and doing the ordinary 'Grandma' stuff you'll find me pouring over the computer while weaving away at a yarn or two, in this case it will be either a historical novel or a true story about some folks who had an amazing life during the dirty thirties.

But that's not all that keeps the wheels of my mind humming and my hands flying. We also run a bed and breakfast which I love, love, love, and you can find out about both of my favorite pass times by popping your finger on the following link:www.marilynshistoricalnovels.com

Prettying Up Hollyhock Haven

Hollyhock Haven Bed and Breakfast

Gotta rush but I'm getting more and more enthused about this Bed and Breakfast idea. If you have been reading my posts lately, you'll see I have had a more or less one track mind. And that's to perk up and pretty up our B&B. I even came up with a new tag line. “A stranger is the friend we haven't met.”Still working on painting the utility and entrance but other things kept crowding in. One friend I have never met saw the pictures on the website and had a lovely comment. She said “When you're done, you'll have a very, very pretty Bed and Breakfast, Marilyn.” Well,I got to going. See you soon? I hope so!

I have a 'wonderful gutt” as the Amish would say, recipe for Granola which would be super popular with our guests. Should I pick up more ingredients today? P.S. Just wait til you taste Country Scrambled Eggs and our Smoothies...
Well, I really must run. I want to pick up some turquoise paint for the utility among other things........That's my feet running out the door! (I know, I know, it should be two tracks!)
Oh I forgot to mention something that's really gonna put our little back-country town on the map. A few years ago I pestered a friend of mine to sell her donuts, and the last couple years she has been doing so. If they become world famous I wouldn't be surprized. I was told they did ten batches a day with nine and a half dozen donuts in each batch and they ALWAYS run out.

I'm Dreaming About...You!

I can’t seem to fall asleep, tonight but I’m dreaming anyway, and those dreams are putting a smile on my face and joy in my heart. I’m picturing Hollyhock Haven as it will be once the word gets out. Hollyhock Haven is the name of our Bed and Breakfast and you can see the picture of the house above. In my mind’s eye, I see a couple with two or three small children walk in the front door, look around and whisper: ‘Home Sweet Home’. That’s the feeling I want people to get when they walk into our ‘haven’. We want them to especially get that feeling if they have never known the security and tranquility of a truly God-centered home

The Strange and Dreadful Enemy

(Continued) That was last week. Every day since men had poured in, too distraught to enjoy her fine cooking or anything else. Every night, after they had fallen into a fitful sleep, she would creep up to the roof of her house, which was crouched on top of the city wall, Rehab would rest her elbows on the solid stone structure to peer out of her casement at the orderly multitude far below.
Oh, that I could be numbered with them, she sighed. I know that they will overtake Jericho and destroy it, and many other cities besides. It is not death I fear. Life hath little meaning for such as I.But if I had a choice, I would rather live if I could live as they. That would be blessed indeed.
The customers dwindled to almost nothing in the coming weeks. No man was going around doing futile things with such a strange and dreadful enemy camping on their doorsteps, or so it seemed...
